Collaboration at New Heights.

Chippewa math students put their teamwork to the test in the Marshmallow Challenge, using creativity and problem-solving to design the tallest freestanding spaghetti tower.

On Friday, Chippewa 7th grade math classes participated in the exciting Marshmallow Challenge. Each group was given 20 pieces of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow—the key ingredient that had to sit at the very top. Their mission: build the tallest freestanding structure possible.

The classroom buzzed with energy as students tested designs, revised strategies, and encouraged one another through the process. The tallest tower stood at an impressive 24.5 inches, measured from the top of the desk to the tip of the marshmallow, earning the first group the winning spot.

More than just a fun challenge, this activity helped students practice communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving—all essential skills for success in math and beyond.
