Learning Through Creativity.

Ms. DeMeio’s 8th Grade Science students at Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School explored genetics by creating monster families, using Punnett Squares to predict traits and bring their creatures to life!

Science met creativity in a fun and engaging way as 7th and 8th Grade students at Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School dove into the world of genetics! Using real-world concepts, students randomly selected genes for their “parent” monsters, then applied their knowledge of Punnett Squares to determine the possible traits for their offspring.

Once the baby monsters’ characteristics were decided, students brought them to life through imaginative drawings, making sure each creature reflected the proper genetic inheritance. The result? A colorful and diverse monster family lineup that demonstrated both scientific understanding and artistic flair!

This hands-on project reinforced key genetics concepts while allowing students to think critically and express their creativity. The excitement in the classroom was contagious as students discovered how traits are passed down through generations—one monster at a time!

Keep an eye out for these imaginative creatures on display, showcasing the incredible work of our young Chipps scientists!
