Sixth Graders Explore the Rock Cycle with Starburst Candies π¬
Learning through hands-on science.
Sixth grade science students used Starburst candies to model the rock cycle, transforming them to demonstrate sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous processes.
Science classrooms at Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School were filled with sweet discovery as sixth graders explored Earth science concepts in a creative way. Students used Starburst candies to bring the complex steps of the rock cycle to life.
By cutting, pressing, heating, and cooling the colorful candies, students directly modeled how natural forces shape our planet. This interactive experiment clearly demonstrated how rocks transform over time into sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous forms.
Engaging activities like this help our Chipps connect abstract scientific ideas to real-world physical processes. Hands-on learning encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the natural world around us.
The enthusiasm in the classroom was high as students observed each stage of transformation firsthand. Seeing our young learners collaborate and enjoy science highlights the dynamic learning environment built every day at Chippewa.
We look forward to seeing our sixth graders continue to explore, test, and discover new concepts throughout the school year.
